Shawville Clarendon Fire Department
The Shawville-Clarendon Fire Department is composed of 28 volunteer firemen that proudly protect 4000 people living in an area of 140 square miles.
The Fire Department is dispatched by the 9-1-1 emergency call centre to grass, bush, barn, and house fires, car accidents for use of Jaws of life and for assistance with paramedics with lifts or as needed by Sûreté du Quebec.
Each fireman must endure rigorous training that is mandated by the Province of Quebec for a total of 300 hours of training in order to be a volunteer firefighter.
The department operates out of one station located on Center St. that protects a primarily rural area. This station was rebuilt and was officially opened on March 25, 2000, the hall was built by many hours of the dedicated volunteers and volunteer fireman and from the Memorial Fund in remembrance of Fire Chief Bill Black.
The fire department is active within the community with its programs for Fire Safety for Schools. The firemen are also instrumental in the Canada Day celebrations such as the parade and setting off of the fireworks. They are active members in our community that serve to protect the residents and those in need.
